How to set a Van Gogh painting as your wallpaper

On your phone (iPhone or Android): tap “Phone (detail)” or “Phone (full painting)” under the work you want and, when the image opens, press and hold and choose “Save Image” (on iPhone, “Save to Photos”). Then go to Settings → Wallpaper and pick it from your photos. The phone versions are already vertical, so there’s no need to crop.

On your computer (Windows or Mac): download the “Desktop Full HD” or “4K” version, right-click the file and choose “Set as desktop background” (Windows) or “Set Desktop Picture” (Mac). For 4K or ultrawide screens, use the 4K version when there is one: in Full HD it would look a little blurry.

Which painting should you choose?

The night skies (The Starry Night, Starry Night Over the Rhône, Café Terrace at Night) work well as wallpapers because icons are easy to read over dark blues. Almond Blossom, Irises and Roses are the lightest, ideal for light mode. Sunflowers and The Bedroom are the warmest. For a wide screen, go for the panoramic landscapes: Wheatfield with Crows, Wheat Field with Cypresses or Olive Trees. In portrait orientation, Cypresses and The Church at Auvers fill a phone screen with almost no cropping.

About image rights
